Liquor Licensing in the City of Winsted

Businesses, organizations, and event organizers interested in selling alcoholic beverages within the City of Winsted are reminded that a valid liquor license is required prior to any sales or service of beer, wine, or intoxicating liquor.

The City of Winsted issues licenses in accordance with Winsted Municipal Code, Chapter 12 and Minnesota Statutes Chapter 340A. Available license types may include:

• On-Sale Liquor
• Off-Sale Liquor
• On-Sale Wine
• Sunday Sales
• Club Licenses
• Temporary On-Sale Event Licenses
• One-Day Consumption & Display Permits
• Brewer / Brew Pub Licenses
• Culinary Class Licenses
• 3.2 Malt Liquor / Special Licenses (where applicable)

Applicants should be prepared to complete a formal application process, which may include:

✅ Proof of business ownership or lease rights
✅ Compliance with zoning and building codes
✅ Insurance requirements
✅ State and local approvals
✅ Payment of licensing fees

Important Reminders:

✅ Applications must be submitted on official forms
✅ Background and financial reviews may be required
✅ Proof of liquor liability insurance is required for most licenses
✅ Council approval is required before a license becomes effective
✅ Licenses generally expire annually on June 30 unless otherwise noted
✅ Renewals should be submitted at least 90 days prior to expiration

Please note that no alcoholic beverages may be sold until all required approvals have been granted and the license has been officially issued.

License holders must follow all state and local laws regarding:
