Winsted Volunteer Fire Department

The Winsted Volunteer Fire Department was formed December 3, 1889.  The Fire Department operates with a roster of up to 30 volunteer fire fighters.  

In addition to providing general fire suppression services, the Fire Department also provides fire cause determination, fire prevention services, cold water rescue, auto extrication, hazardous materials response, Skywarn spotters, as well as fire and medical coverage at the Winstock Country Music Festival.

The Fire Department services the City of Winsted, as well as portions of the following townships:

• Hollywood
• Victor
• Winsted
• Woodland

Each year, they host a spaghetti dinner the Thursday prior to Winstock in June and the annual Firefighter's Pancake Breakfast the Sunday morning of the Winsted Summer Festival in August.

The Fire Department operates a first responder service, responding to all medical emergencies within the coverage area.  The Department operates with state-certified emergency medical technicians and certified first-responders.

The Winsted Volunteer Fire Department is currently hiring to fill positions on the team! The core group consists of Firefighters who are also EMR certified.  Aside from fighting fires, they respond to medical emergencies, car crashes, water rescue, SkyWarn, and HAZMAT calls.

The WVFD recently added an exclusive Emergency First Responder position that supports the Fire Department from a medical aspect only. This position is targeted for those who want to serve the community in a patient care capacity, while not participating in the firefighting role.

If you are interested in protecting and serving the community as a member of the WVFD, qualifications include:

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must have a valid drivers license
• Must be able to perform physical tasks in all kinds of weather
• Must live within 8 minutes of the Fire Station OR work within the City.
• Tasks may include heavy lifting

 
No previous experience is required.  All training & equipment is provided. Both MEN and WOMEN are encouraged to apply!
